Creative Philosophy

Making vessels I love — to please myself, and to share with every person who uses them.

Wu Xihong's creative inspiration comes from observations and feelings drawn from everyday life. He insists on completing each piece entirely by hand, preserving wheel-throwing textures, incised marks, and the natural variations that emerge after firing — without over-refinement — so that every work carries a unique and authentic handcrafted quality.

He pays close attention to the foot ring, texture, glaze color, and the relationships between dots, lines, and planes, hoping that his vessels are not only functional but also embody a natural, restrained, and spiritually resonant quality. In his view, technique is the foundation of creation, while the true vitality of a work comes from inspiration, intuition, and an understanding of life.

Youxing Studio

Youxing Studio focuses on the design and production of handmade everyday ceramic vessels. The name "Youxing" (有杏) is drawn from the classical phrase "因荷而得藕，有杏不须梅" — expressing a relaxed and natural enjoyment of life. The studio seeks to build a bridge between traditional forms and contemporary aesthetics, allowing vessels to retain the warmth and subtlety of Eastern ceramics while also carrying a light, vivid, and modern character.

Inlaid Bead Series

The Inlaid Bead Series includes plates, teapot stands, and coffee cups, all individually wheel-thrown by hand with natural chattering marks and making traces preserved. The works are based on traditional sunflower-mouth forms, with colored clay beads inlaid at the vessel's turning points, combined with glazes such as celadon shadow-blue and apple green, and fired at approximately 1310°C.

The colored clay beads serve as "dots," the incised textures form "lines," and the vessel itself constitutes the "plane." The three elements echo one another, giving traditional forms a simple, light, and rhythmically contemporary expression.
